I just picked up a Llama 45 on consignment for dirt effing cheap. Approx 4"  Barrel. Made in spain, this thing is in great cheap and shoots very well. It performs flawless with my lead handloads and hollowpoints. It makes any of the phillipine made 1911's I have owned in the past look like complete trash. It actually feels and shoots just like the Kimber I own in the same configuration. Anyone else ever seen or own these? One thing I noticed is it doesnt have a full length guide rod. Any input on doing some simple upgrades to improve this pistol?

this is what wiki had to say about this one:

Llama MAX-I C/F: Also called Max-I Compact. Manufactured 1995-????. Self-loading pistol, locked breech, Colt 1911-A1 "clone", in .45 ACP (7-round magazine), .40 S&W (8-round magazine) and in 9mm Parabellum (9-round magazine) but with reduced size mainspring housing. High polish blue or satin-chrome finish. Shorter (4.25 inch barrel) and lighter model of the MAX-I.

Limited parts interchange with the 1911. Unless you've identified a specific problem, I wouldn't mess with it.

I had 2 full size Llama 1911s and they both fired any ammo that I could give them, had one for a truck gun for a LONG time.

Llama steel is a lot softer than most pistols made in US and like other poster said not a true  mil spec 1911 and uses different barrel, mags, and not sure if the dove tail for rear sights is the same as any US manufactured pistol.  Original Llamas had a full length firing pin and were very prone to firing if dropped on muzzle or hammer.  Your pistol is one of the later imports and should have a newer shorter firing pin/spring.  Back in the 70's and  80's the Llamas had a poor reputation and none of the 1911 gunsmiths would work on them.  If you have one that functions I wouldn't mess with sucess  and just shoot it b as is.  This pistol is prbably good for a weekend plinker but probably wouldn't stand up to being shot thousands of rounds a year in competition.

I hope your is better than mine was, bad grouping, sloppy fit, jammed a lot on good factory ammo, and then one day I was shooting and the rear dovetail came off, which holds in the firing pin, which promptly got lost. Then spent 6 months (this was before the internet when gun shows were my only source for parts) looking for a replacement. llamas no mas.
