I just picked this up in a trade from a S&W rep at a M&P armorers course at my department range. The quality if very good and it ran a couple of hundred rounds like a champ with no issues. This is my first S&W 1911 and the overall fit and finish are nicer that some of the Kimbers I have handled recently. I also have the rep sending me a new SW1911 sc commander with a bobtail frame in a few weeks when he comes up with one. They are hard to come by these days so I feel pretty fortunate with getting this one.

Good luck with your new pistol; nice grips mainspring housing and magwell.

If I may ask; does it run properly with the original ACT magazines, and if not, which magazines are you having success with?

I had an early production unit that was eventually replaced by S&W; and although the one I have now runs FMJ and hollow points extremely well with Chip McCormick Power Mags; it absolutely refuses to run with the original OEM Act magazines, and will only run FMJ "somewhat" reliably with Wilson 47Ds.

Nevertheless; I'm liking the pistol more and more every time I shoot it which is weekly.

It has gone through 1000 consecutive trouble free rounds with all sorts of ammunition with the CMC Power mags and the accuracy has been excellent as well.

One thing to look out for:

The original pistol I had was sprung like a limp noodle; not only the recoil spring, but the entire pistol.

The replacement pistol I received from S&W was sprung much more stiffly; including the recoil spring and mainspring; but after only 600 rounds, the slide velocity became noticeably excessive on recoil so I needed to replace the recoil spring fairly soon into the service cycle.

I'm currently using a 17 LB Wilson Combat recoil spring and the pistol is shooting extremely softly and the action is as smooth as glass.

I also have several OEM factory springs in my range bag as well as an 18.5 LB Wolf, but I'm sticking with the 17LB Wilson for now necause the gun is running so well with it.

Its something for you to keep an eye on.

Again; good luck with your E Series 1911TA, they are beautiful pistols.
