...between and officer frame (grip) and a government frame?

I have an idea of converting a full size to a CCO. This particular pistol has little commercial value, but it has been a very reliable pistol. Since I couldn't get anything close to a fair price for it, and since I want a CCO, I concluded that converting this one would get me what I want.

Why not just bobtail it?

It's a half inch.  But, it's a LOT of work to shorten it by that .500".  You would have to weld up the sides for new screw bushing locations for one.  I'm with the previous poster, just bobtail it.

I while back I wanted to convert a Wilson Professional with a rail to an officer's grip in order to get essentially a CQB compact with rail (which wasn't available at the time -although the current version won't work with an X300 because of the purely cosmetic diagonal cut to the rail...). I asked quite a few 1911 smiths from all around the country about this conversion and none were willing to  take on the project. They all agreed that it could be done, but that it would be a lot of work and probably cost-prohibitive.

Just to make sure what you're intentions are, you want a Government top end with a shorter Officer's grips frame?

A CCO generally means a Commander or even 4" top end over a shorter Officer's frame.  You can cut the frame, weld up the side of the frame, and relocate the grip screw bushings, which would be very expensive.  I'll even recommend a smith who will likely do it.  It will cost more than a real CCO though.

Or, you can get an Officer's sized frame, but you will have a gap between the front of the dust cover and the rear of the Government slide's recoil spring tunnel.

I'm with everyone else.  Bobtail it and enjoy.

I will be doing the work. I already know the length of a commander slide and barrel, so I did not ask for that information. I do not care for bobtail frames, so I have no interest in converting my frame to such.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
