my Kimber Custom II arrived at my FFL dealer and the mag release wasn't made right so the gunsmith had to do a modification to it so it would work
anyone else heard of this problem?

I've had two of those and never had that problem.  The one I have now is my every day carry gun.

did you determine it wasn't working right or did he determine it and make the mod so he wouldn't inconvenience you?

IMO, manufacturing quality and customer service from Kimber are not what they used to be.

I own two custom gold combats, one custom combat carry, and two stainless target IIs ( one in .45 acp and one in 10mm).
I have owned four of the pistols for more than 10 years.  I have put over 200K rounds through one of the target-IIs.
I can't remember ever having a FTF or FTE for any of these pistols (except maybe when I forgot to put in a new recoil spring and the pistol was very dirty).

I bought a newer target-II.  It is a jam-o-matic.  I have changed springs, changed magazine designs, nothing helps.
I'm looking at the feed ramp and thinking about my dremel tool now.
My friend bought the same model pistol on the same day as me, and has the same problem.
These pistols have the internal extractor, not the failed Kimber external extractor design.

Modern Kimbers are known to be problematic. Do a 5 minute internet search.

When we contacted Kimber, customer service said, "run 500 rounds through it and see if it improves".
Run 500 rounds through a pistol that can't even cycle one time without malfunctioning?
This must be what life is like in hell.
My older Kimbers all functioned flawlessly, right out of the box.

O.K., sorry for the rant.  I'm not surprised that a new Kimber has problems.
Kimber is a victim of their own success, as volume increased, quality decreased.   I'll not buy another.

Kimber is so hit or miss these days I wouldn't dream of owning another Kimber product. Kimber's customer service sucks major dugan to boot. It just sucks that a company that USED to make good pistols, and half the time still does, comes to this. How long can they ride their successful marketing ploys back before people realize they are not the same company of yester-year? When you get or have a good one keep it. If your looking to buy a new one your rolling the dice.

Just bought a used Custom II and I have absolutely very little to complain about. I believe Kimber could have given more attention to detail in the sight department, thus being said you get what you pay for. Also, NO FRONT STRAP Checked... I can live without it but!  The Pros of this pistol; Trigger pull is an absolute surprise in this 1911 with a crisp break and very very clean creep. Also I enjoy the craftsmanship that is Kimber, in the smooth edges and pretty durable finish...Like I said I am well pleased and I am disappointed in the talk of the quality and customer service going down. Ive been Kimber loyal since mid 90s and I will remain as long as my experience stays the same with them.

Every once and while a Kimber makes it out of the factory with the mag catch lock not turned in all the way.  It sounds like that is what happened with your pistol.  Its not a defect or anything, just a simple turn with a hex will pop it into place.

Had the same problems when I went with Wilson mags on a Colt gun. 2 mins with a hand file and all was working the way it should.
