Not the usual 1911 idiot mark. More like a huge squiggly scratch!  I was out fishing for gar with a friend and decided to take my RIA fs with me. We got off the vehical and had to walk a distance to the fishing spot.. I stuffed my Rock inside my pants, strong side,  without a holster.  When I pulled it out It had a mark an idiot made. Huge!! Man, it hurt..Kinda wanted to cry!! I mean, I myself said this would be my truck, fishing, and just throw around gun, but it was a huge scratch..

This guns are parkerized.  Is there something I can do to fix it, or at least make it not look so bad?  Ive scratch parkerized finishes before, but smaller scratches. The always seem to fade away.. Don't think there's much of a chance with this time. I don't even know what scratched it. Maybe my belt or keys.

Please, any suggestions?

Thanks
Rick in Texas.

the first one hurts the most!
not a lot you can do w/parked.
a lot of people don't like SS but it buffs out pretty easily.

Put about 1000 rounds a week through it, then smile because you're a better shot than most pistol shooters, and the idiot scratch is covered by holster wear from thousands of presentations.

Gun-Kote?  Depends... Other wise... as noted above, go shoot the heck out of it.

The bad thing about parkerized guns is that they scratch easy, the good thing is that the scratches get covered up easily by other scratches

My MilSpec used to be nice and pretty a couple years ago. Since then it's gotten plenty of scratches and holster wear. The front of the grip has some nice bare spots starting from the sweat and acids of my hands and fingers. Sometimes I think about duracoating it, but I like the wear.

It sucks, the first one is always the worst. Consider it a badge of honor and keep on shooting and carrying it, park'd guns aren't meant to be purdy, they are supposed to be used.

Take your pocket knife and make a mark exactly like it o n the opposite side. That way it will look like it is supposed to be there.

Woke up this morning and the scratch is still there... No!!!!!...Just Kidding...Read all your responses and all of you are right. I will see this scractch as a battle mark.  It actually was a very good fishing trip.  We caught alot of Alligator gar. The mark will remind me of the trip.  The gun is a shooter. In fact, it shoots awsome.

I will just let new marks cover it..Or holster wear..theres an idea, use the holsters. Funny thing is, i do have several holsters my 1911s share.  just didn't take one with me. Reproduce the mark on the other side?? LOL..I don't think I can..

Thanks Guys
