I am new to the handgun scene. I have taken my permit class already, and just waiting on the forms to go through. My first purchase is going to be a 22/45, and close second will be a 1911.

The 1911 will be my carry weapon, but this thread is not about carry holsters. I will be buying a Dan Wesson Guardian, with the 4.3" Barrel.

What this thread IS about, is a holster for exposed use, such as range use / hiking / whatever else I may need, basically for when concealment is not needed.

I would like one that mounts to a belt, on the hip, not a drop leg. I am right handed.

Thanks!

In that case, I'd say a Safariland 6280...great all around belt holster.

The holster body is the same as a Safriland 6004 thigh rig. This holster offers a simple means of retention, while having an easy draw and a nice ride height. There is also another model which has a paddle and rides higher.
You can buy the belt loop attachment accessory separately in many different heights...optics planet sells these cheap.

I know there are allot of options, but as with other things, there are some bad and some good. Just trying to get a feel for what the good stuff is so that I don't waste my money.

Bladetech, raven, Sarfiland, Comp-Tac, are few excellent quailty holster makers. All my Kydex are Bladetech Stingrays.

Foubs, uncle mikes budget holsters.

Not up on leather holsters, only ones I have are Bianchi pancake (low budget) and  Milt Sparks VMII (well worth the money).

I would steer clear of Cheap Nylon holsters common found in magazines such as cheaper than dirt.

16 - 18 weeks for a Kydex holster... that is ridiculous.  For a leather holster I can see it.  Meh...
