This is the beavertail that came fitted to my Norinco 1911 from the factory.

it's cool aside from the fact that it isn't fitted right.

The frame has been cut at a radius, but the frame tangs are still wider than the safety itself,

wiich rubs on the web of my hand.

Now, I haven't shot it yet so I can't say how much of a hassle it'll be, but sure it ain't right.

Anyone can recognize wich kind of grip safety did they "clone"?

Is there another solution else than shaping the frame? Maybe a "low-ride" beavertail to better cover the frame tangs?

Thanks for your help in advance!

From all the info I have, it'd be based on Colt drawings. I don't know a thing about grip safeties,

but that right there should be a .250 radius. How can I check?

.250 would be the radius of said drill bit

I may find it difficult to find inch pattern tools here,

but the thing is, the gun already has a radiused tang.

the problem lies in the BGS not sitting properly, like it was too slim in the inner lower portion of the tail..

well can u get a 12.7mm drill? same size   Either way, just by looking at the pictures...it appears as if it's fitted improperly. Worst thing about 1911 pistols is that many of the parts are not drop in.

I may get to modify a 13mm drill for that specific purpose, If I knew what to do.

The gun came this way from the factory.

if the gs functions, you could tape the gs in the fire postion and see if you can blend the gs down to the frame.

Ed Brown sells a .5 Dia file hard jig for cutting the radius.  It is all I use.  Even with that jig you still have to blend the GS and frame.

Gregory, thanks,

but if you take a look at the picture, the tanks are already cut. Don't know how to measure them but everything tells me they're a .25 radius.

Question is.. is there on the market a GS that requires no blending?

NO WAY.

No matter what the media told you, a Dremel and a 1911 ARE NOT friends.

My Norinco hissed at it yesterday.

Wilson Sells a drop in for Colts (.250 rad) and Sprinfield armory (.220 rad), but IMHOP they look like shit, no better than what you have now.  Colt may sell what some call a duckbill gs that works with unmodified frame tangs. that even looks worse.

I only use Ed Brown GS, they always require blending of both the frame, gs, and thumb saftey for a nice smooth blend.  I know of no bevertail gs that looks good without some cutting of the frame.

Now you may be able to add a GI grip saftey, if you dont care about the bevertail part. that might line up well enough.
