Hi everybody,

I've been thinking about getting a Ultra CDP II (LG) for CCW. I have a few questions:

Is this Kimber worthy the price tag of $1,200+?

How is the performance of the 45 ACP out of the short barrel?

How is the reliability of this 1911? I heard they tend to jam.

Here is what I'm looking for:

How about the Para Warthog 10+1 in stainless steel?

Thanks!

I've had my Ultra CDP since 2002 and I can't remember a single jam.  I've had no issues with that gun what so ever, and my wife prefers that short 45 to many of my other guns.  It's accurate, recoil is manageable and it's dead sexy.  The only thing I'm not fond of, is having to use Kimbers little wire to maintain the guide rod spring.  I wish they had just made it a captured spring or something along those lines.  Look around, I didn't pay near that price for mine.  You might be able to find it for a little over 1k with those grips.

I've looked at the CDP II's a few times. The only reason I haven't bought one is price. Don't get me wrong, they are worth the price, but most places are on the high end and won't budge. I do have two Kimbers that I found ( while looking for a CDP II) for just over 1K, a Raptor Pro II and Tactical Ultra II. The Tactical is very close to the CDP II, mainly the finish. I carry the Tactical daily, both have performed 100%, no issues. I had heard that "short" 1911's were known to be unreliable, Kimber seems to have the problems worked out. I'm once again looking for a new 1911, might even find a CDP this time but, I really like the Super Carry Pro, Kimber has out. If I can't find either one of the Kimbers I've considered a Springfield EMP, but I prefer a 45 ACP. Try Bud's, they have some of the best prices. I can never buy guns in this price range locally, the tax kills the deal, even factoring in the shipping, usually $20 - $25 and $20 Transfer my FFL charges.

You loose 60 fps going from a 5" to a 3" barrel.  230 grain factory Gold Dots chrony at 805 fps out of my Kimber Ultra, and 865 out of my Government model.

Fuck that $1,200 bullshit. Get yourself a Colt defender. Change the recoil spring at about the 1,500-2,000 round mark and you're good to go.
