[ARCHIVED THREAD] - SA Operator guide rod question

I have a SA Operator with a two piece guide rod and I was wondering if it would still function properly if I unscrewed the front half of the guide rod and replaced the recoil spring plug with a flat cap one (model 70 style)

Yes, though I'd chamfer
the outer edges first.
