| Easy, hard, send it to a smith? |
|
It really depends. With the proper tools (a sight pusher - really spendy if you are only going to do it once) it is an easy job. Without a sight pusher it is still do-able but requires a great deal of care.
The first issue is that a sharp blow near the vials holding the tritium could crack them and that will cost you $80-$100 for new sights. The second issue is that the sights fit very tightly in the dove tails so some fairly hefty taps with a hammer and brass drift punch are needed, and in some cases some minor fitting with a file (on the sights) may be needed. So unless you have access to a sight pusher or alternatively have suitable drift punches and some skills with tools to enable you to do it without breaking the sights or marring the pistol, you are better off sending it to a smith, or better yet sending the slide to Kimber. How old is your Kimber? those particular sights are mepro light sights and are supposed to last 12 years. If your Kimber is only a few years old Kimber might reach them for you under warranty. |
