Easy, hard, send it to a smith?

It really depends. With the proper tools (a sight pusher - really spendy if you are only going to do it once) it is an easy job.  Without a sight pusher it is still do-able but requires a great deal of care.

The first issue is that a sharp blow near the vials holding the tritium could crack them and that will cost you $80-$100 for new sights.
The second issue is that the sights fit very tightly in the dove tails so some fairly hefty taps with a hammer and brass drift punch are needed, and in some cases some minor fitting with a file (on the sights) may be needed.

So unless you have access to a sight pusher or alternatively have suitable drift punches and some skills with tools to enable you to do it without breaking the sights or marring the pistol, you are better off sending it to a smith, or better yet sending the slide to Kimber.

How old is your Kimber? those particular sights are mepro light sights and are supposed to last 12 years. If your Kimber is only a few years old Kimber might reach them for you under warranty.

Past warranty - and one is dead from a drop or impact of some kind.

Thanks - maybe off to Kimber

Kimber fixed rear sights are put in with a 20 ton press.  If you plan on changing it yourself without a heavy duty sight pusher better get a big hammer.

Kimber may well use a 20 ton press, but it obviously does not take a 20 ton press to move, remove or re-install Kimber sights.  A small to medium sized hammer will do just fine.

I sent my old CDP Custom  Pro slide to Kimber for new Mepro night sights and got it back in about two weeks with no gunsmithing marks.

Sending it to Springer precision.  They did an XD for me.  I will probably have the frame of the kimber refiished as well.
