picked up a new springfield 1911, the plain jane parkerized one cylinder-slide uses for their TRIDENT, for $400. i am not thrilled about springfields but it has a rd. count of 50. am having a KART BBL/BUSHING (not the EASY FIT MODEL) fitted, long trigger, trigger job to 3.5 lbs, extended ejector, KENSIGHT ADJ. NITE SIGHT, eject. port lowered, 18 lb. wolfe recoil spring, tuned extractor, etc. the smith has been in the 1911 game since the late 70's specializing in competetion guns, which he no longer does (the exotic stuff). plan is to rotate it w/my MP 40 cal as my carry gun, probably in a shoulder rig, which i have never done b4 as dept. wouldn't let us. gonna retire in a year and do it MY way. i'm looking at the metalform elite 8 rd mags but damn they're expensive. any thoughts on all a this? oh, also, 99% of ammo is gonna be 230 gr lead reloads swc, w/the carry rds gold dot hp.  thanks

For a carry gun, I'd skip the adjustable rear sight, personally.

I like to carry my 1911's on the strong side at 3 o'clock. I haven't tried a shoulder holster because if the attacker is in close, he'll be able to jam you up quickly before you can clear leather by simply bum rushing you and getting a hand on your arm. Not to mention that you're sweeping your arm/shoulder area with the muzzle every time you holster/unholster the pistol. I carry in a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB.

For mags, I use Chip McCormick PowerMags. They're right around $20-22 and Midway USA and Natchez Shooter Supply will usually have a sale for less than that.

I also feed my Springfields SWC's for practice. Depending on the load, you might have to start removing the lead from your barrel before switching back to jacketed bullets. A product called Lewis Lead Remover is supposed to be great for that.

It sounds like it's going to be a great gun.  I am partial to a fixed rear as Wizz mentioned and in fact for my 1911 Colt that I carry I use a Low profile Novak plain (I just like the rounded look and feel) with a tritium up front. I am not a magazine expert but Powermags and Wilsons have always served me well. Put some pics up when you get her back!

i will post pics. be at the end of summer earliest though. i wanted the fixed low profile novaks too but the smith said he was tired of having to go back and adjust the sights when the user changes loads and the POI changes. he was so adament about it i caved. but he will dehorn everything he said. good advice on the holster choice too. thanks guys.
