Im looking at getting some new sights on my Mil-Spec.
I have a smith that can cut my slide and install them. I was looking into some XS sights. Does anyone have these? Im really not sure what exactly I want, but I dislike lining up 3 dots in a row. What type of sights do you guys gave on your 1911? The Mil-Spec is mostly used at the range, but may see some carry time during the winter months. I searched for XS sights to see if we already had another thread, I didnt find anything though. |

Thee are plain serrated blade and plain black serrated front sights, three dot sights, "straight 8" sights (basically one dot on top of another) and variations on the theme with a front sight with a single dot, square, line, T, etc on with a black rear blade, or a blade with a horizontal line, or a line that outlines the notch. And in addition to a square notch you can get a u notch or even express style notches and blades.
Beyond that there are various retro, adjustable, low profile, and non snag tactical designs. Specify what you prefer and people can be more specific about what's available that might meet your needs. Brownells is a good place to start to review the large number of 1911 sight options. |

Most of mine are variants on the "dot in front, black in back"... dot being white, fiber, or tritium as the circumstances dictate. A few guns wear 3-dots. I had the Big Dot sights on a Kahr and wasn't impressed enough to put them on anything else. Does the rear sight get "lost" when pointing at the target? |

Not to steal the thread but like the OP I'm looking for new sights. A new rear white outline sight for my Wilson Protector would be nice. The front sight is fine but I like the white outline such as the Glocks have. Current sights are apparently the tritium 3 dots but I don't like the rear sights in the daytime.
Any suggestions? |

I had the Big Dot sights on a Kahr and wasn't impressed enough to put them on anything else. Does the rear sight get "lost" when pointing at the target? it was pretty challenging to definitively align the dot on top of the rear sight where it needed to be. As a result, my shots tended to string vertically. All you really have to go on is the white vertical line on the rear sight, and it's not a very precise index point. Plus the front sight was large enough that it didn't take much misalignment to miss smaller targets at longer ranges. They'd probably be fine for a backup gun, but I don't want to give up the ability to easily hit out to 25 yards on my primary defensive pistol. |
