| Looking at getting a 5" 9mm 1911 and like the looks of the S&W & Springfield offerings. Either one any more reliable than the other? I would also like the option of putting a threaded barrel on it later on (or have the original threaded) to use with my Trident9 at some point. So who has one or has used either one and what are your opinions? |

I picked up a used SW1911 9mm full size Pro Series here on the EE. When I first got it, the trigger was horrible. Really nothing like what I've come to expect from S&W.
There was a simple problem that I had a local gunsmith correct that took him about 5 minutes. The only problem was the grip safety was not fitted correctly and didn't fully disengage, causing drag and an excessive trigger pull. I'm sure it was an isolated problem, and my friend who just bought an identical Smith 9mm 1911 last week has an excellent trigger on his. Accuracy is excellent. After my friend and I were done with our normal shooting, we went back to 50 feet to shoot at our 8" steel plates. Offhand, we were both hitting 8-9 out of 10 shots every time. I don't have any experience with a stock SA 9mm 1911. Another friend of mine has a full size SA 9mm 1911, but it has an action job done by Karl Sokol at Chestnut Mountain Sports. From my experience, buy the S&W with confidence. I love mine. |

I recently picked up a new SA 9mm. So far only one trip to the range, but everything worked perfectly. Fit and finish were very good. Trigger was ok, but certainly not to the level of my Nighthawk or Dan Wesson.
Since I'm not a fan of shiny guns, I dropped it off locally at JoJo's for a quick trigger tune up (nothing major, just to clean it up a bit), a front Triji/rear black sight set and a refinish in Black Cerakote. I'll post pictures when I get it back in a month or so. |

I like my Springfield 9mm's, though the S&E isn't a bad choice either. THis started out as a .38Super mil-spec. http://photosbydon.smugmug.com/photos/1230027114_CvXaZ-L.jpg http://photosbydon.smugmug.com/photos/1006493609_xeBDK-L.jpg Who did the work? |
