I can get a Springfield Loaded NIB, today, for $739, local: no shipping, no FFL transfer, but sales tax. Might get better price if I pay in cash.

Should I hit it, or not?

They've got it set aside for me and I'll be at the fun shop by 10:00 a.m.

That's better by $100 than the local SA retailer can do.  If that's what your looking for, you're not gonna find a better price for a new example.

Added:  make sure its a Loaded.  Price is almost too good, and around here at least, more appropriate for a Mil-Spec.

Roger that, will check carefully.

I did ask the guy on the phone, "This is a "Loaded" model"? And he said, "yes" and I said, "I mean it is the model that Springfield calls the "Loaded" and he said yes.

But, it's close to my gun club and any excuse to go the range is a good one.

I've got my Glock loaded up in range bag in case this doesn't pan out.

Do it - I bought my loaded model about 2 years ago for $830 OTD.  I love that gun!

Well OP, did you buy it ?

Well, I took the plunge today. After a lot of reading, research and price shopping, I decided to get a Springfield Armory 1911, Loaded, 45 ACP. What a joy! It feels just right in the hand and it shoots beautifully, smoothly and powerfully. I had it out at the range today and put 300 rounds of CCI Blazer Brass. I had three feed problems, thanks to the *totally crappy* magazines it comes with. Man, are they junk! Will be taking advantage of the coupon offer that came with the gun.

I bought it from a Dunn's sporting goods store near me in Pevely, Missouri. GREAT service. Friendly folks and....the price...gadzooks...I got this puppy, new in the box, for $739 out the door. I probably could have dinked around on the Internet for a few months trying to find a better price, but would not have saved that much and would have had to plunk down $20 for FFL, even if/when I got one from Bud's Gun shop with free shipping.

So, I'm happy.

I got out to the bullseye range at our gun club and put my target out at 25 yards and was hitting center mass, every time, with pretty tight groups. Any fault in the grouping was, I assure you, totally operator error.

The interesting thing is how after shooting a few thousand rounds through my Glock 22, and selling, it, this thing is no problem. Can't believe how much better it shoots than my Glock .40. I had my Glock 17 with me and was shooting it as well today and ... well, still love the Glock but love my 1911 more.

I am very, very happy.

Here's a pic of the nice and dirty SA 1911...now to figure out how to break free the guide rod with the allen wrench! In case you are wondering, I've got it propped up on a World War II "officer's pointer" made out of a 50 cal bullet, put into a 4 inch round primer tube, and a 50 cal cartridge, with a zinc 1943 penny on the base. Kind of cool.

OK, so one of you knuckleheads tried to "warn" me "how hard" it is to field strip a Springfield 1911. He said, "You better borrow one and try field stripping it before you buy one!" Oh, scary!

Hey, guy, here you go. I pulled upthis videoin YouTube and...a minute few seconds later ... no biggie. Heck, I've got Ruger Mark III Huntsman...now THAT is a PITA to field strip. This is a breeze.

Does he have another???

Nope, just the one, but another guy told me about Dunns and suggested I check with them, glad I did! He got a similarly good deal on a SA 1911. The guy at Dunns told me that they are selling 1911s just about as fast as they get them into inventory. They have a very nice inventory, by the say, second only to Cabelas, I'd say.

I'm sure they would be happy, however, to take your name/number and put you on a waiting list or something.

Your thread title mentions a sanity check. I hope you realize the madness is just beginning.
I predict by the end of the day you'll be posting something about your next 1911. It's ok. We're here to help you (spend your money).

Well done
I think you've chosen a fine pistol.

Congratulations,

It's like a drug dealer giving you a discount so you'll get addicted and keep coming back for more.
Unfair business practice if you ask me........

I think I'll get good and used to it with the sights and trigger it came with, I'm still learning handgun fundamentals. I know the thing can bullseye, for it shoots great from a rest, but seems it is not as accurate when I'm holding it my hands. Obviously a problem with the gun!!

Got my eye on some custom grips...yes, the insanity has commenced.

I've had Springfield as my 1st choice carry gun for years, similar set up with full length guide rod, Novak's. The only upgrade I made was checkered front strap. Worth every penny!!

Congrats on your new toy, you'll be very happy with it!

Good price. I paid $825 after tax for the one I bought new.

After you field strip it a couple times, you'll figure out that you don't like the full-length guide rod.

You can fix it by buying an Ed Brown GI guide rod and Ed Brown spring cap(brain fart, can't remember if that's the right name or not).

This turns your pistol into GI configuration and makes field stripping a tool-less ordeal. You'll also find that your Springfield FLGR will come unscrewed during firing. Best to be rid of it, in my opinion.

Now have some fun putting some rounds through it!

Duh, got it.

Yes, I field stripped it now, twice, and I've already "misplaced" the allen wrench!

And, when I went to field strip the second time I noticed the GR had already worked itself loose.

Definitely going to be replacing that puppy.

Is this the one piece you are talking about? Link.

And is this the "plug" you are talking about? Link.

My 1911 is parkerized, so not sure about the SS plug, but...might look kind of cool.

And now I'm trying to figure out, precisely why, SA puts in a FLGR requiring me to have an Allen wrench to field strip this puppy. I'm leaning toward swapping it out for a GI standard rod and plug to make field stripping a lot easier, but.....

I'm thinking there must be a reason they use this particular configuration. I'm new enough to the 1911 platform that I have no idea what the advantages are of a FLGR and what impact it might have on my pistol if I remove it and swap it out for the two piece style with a plug.

Oh, did I mention I already have lost the allen wrench that came with my 1911? Yup. I have.

not quite sure why they felt the need to put in that style of recoil rod but there should be no ill effects from switching to a GI style.
i have heard of many people doing so with no issues
