I bought my first 1911 today! Sprinfield Armory  Loaded SS. Of course I have a few questions that I'm sure have already been asked.
1) Can I shoot my reloads? This is a no-no in my Glock.
2) Is it ok to carry locked and loaded?
3) The guide rod requires an Allen wrench to remove. Will it affect the function if I change it to a push cap?

Thanks

1.) Yes, reloads are fine.  Manufacturers don't like re-loads, but your barrel does not care.

2.) 1911's are safe to carry with one in the pipe and the safety engaged.  Cocked and Locked.

3.)  Switching to a G.I. Style spring and guide rod setup will not hurt anything.

Enjoy!

glock like everyone else says no reloads as a liability thing. Swapping the full length guide rod for a GI style set up is ok but if the gun works as is it might be better to leave it alone.
Cocked and locked is the only proper way to carry a 1911 in this day and age
