I've decided to take the plunge and put in an extended beavertail safety on my 1991A1. (Probably the Wilson Combat drop in from Brownells).

I realize the hammer needs replacement to do this (spur style to commander style).

Any other parts required (sear possibly?).

Also a good recommendation on a tool to fit the Beavertail grip safety for engagement would be nice.

besides the hammer, i would get a new sear and a hammer strut.

most manufacturer's have a jig for their grip safety installation.

The Wilson or S&A grip safety would be easier to fit.  the Ed Brown will probably require more blending since it's cut higher.

if you get a drop-in, you shouldn't need a jig.
