Quoted: That really is a nice looking pair of pistols. You can be justifiably proud of those two.I joined this forum to learn more about the AR I purchased a few years ago but find myself lurking around the 1911 section more than the others... I purchased this Gov't combat model when I got out of the Army in 1978. I kind of wanted a Commander at the time but decided to stick with something I was very familiar with from the Army. Over the years I decided to pick up a Commander too if I could find one with similar roll marks as my Series 70. Several years ago I found this one and although slightly overpriced, the guy threw in enough magazines to justify the expense. Sometime during my misspent youth I had Millet target sights on the Gov't model which made it so ugly, I kind of lost interest. A few years ago I started having the Gov't model put to it's current condition then the Commander followed suit. I knew they would never be identical but got 'em pretty close. I still have a couple of little things to do to but as far as this project goes, it's pretty much complete. They both get shot often and are 100% reliable and accurate with any ammo I feed them. I can't imagine how many tens of thousands of rounds I've put down the pipe of the gov't. Sometimes people ask me which I prefer but in all honesty, I wouldn't trade one for the other. The Gov't has given me comfort through a few "tense moments" through the years so I guess it gets the nod on sentiment alone http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l250/housewolf/2comb2.jpg?t=1298751500 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l250/housewolf/2comb3-1.jpg?t=1298751208 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l250/housewolf/2comb5.jpg?t=1298751263 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l250/housewolf/2comb1.jpg?t=1298751316 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l250/housewolf/2comb4.jpg?t=1298751351 Did you remove the bumper pads from the magazines? If so, what was your reason? |

Thanks guys. I really didn't mean to make this a quiz but that's fine too. I count five. Most of the recent work on both guns including the front strap on the Commander was done by Wilson Combat. Edit: I didn't remove the bumper pads from the magazines in the pictures. They are CM mags and were that way when I acquired them in a trade. I just grabbed them for the photos because they matched, and were empty at the time I took the photos. ![]() |
