I just got a Springfield SS loaded and i want to get a threaded barrel so i can put a comp on. I see midway has Swenson brand barrels for cheap, obviously its not going to be the most accurate barrel ever but as long as im hitting what im aiming at then im good. Midway has a storm lake threaded for $190 and a Swenson threaded with a comp for $90, so would it be worth it to save $100? I want a threaded barrel so i can make different comps and experiment with designs so i don't necessarily need a match accuracy barrel but are swenson barrels complete shit? Or would it cycle and shoot just fine with decent enough accuracy?

Also with a semi-drop in barrel how hard would it be to fit it to my springfield? I have everything i would think i would need (mill, lathe ect.) but how hard is it? From what i hear a lot of it is fitting the locking lugs on top of the barrel so they fit the slide but what else is involved? Sorry if this has been cover before but im brand new to 1911's so i have never hung around and read through here before

go to brownells and read about building a 1911 in the gen bench section.

All I can say is buy once cry once.
