Just got my first 1911 in a trade and I wanted to ad a MSH/Magwell to the pistol. Its a SA Loaded older model I'm very pleased with this gun its accurate and smooth. It will be used as my Combat Competition gun and I would like to ad a nice 20-25 lpi MSH and a magwell to it.

I think I'm just gonna go with a "bolt on" model not a welded/soldered model. So what I wanna know is what you guys run, how you like it, and where did you get it from. If you've got more than one I'd also like to know what you think makes brand X better than brand Y and so forth.

Thanks
Joshua

I put a flat Ed Brown MSH in mine. It has the mag well that bolts on and it's great. Sometimes I change my grips around and I put on or take off the mag well depending on what grips I go with. Even without thread locker or anything it stays put just fine.

Here are some pics with the MSH with and without the magwell installed.

I've used an S&A in the past with good luck.  Right now I've just got the factory Springfield one that came on my TRP.  Works fine as well.

I have the WC detachable speed chute on my 4" CQB and my Delta Elite. It is a good, sturdy unit with a checkered MSH and low profile chute that bolts on sturdy in minutes. Mine served me well for years (hence, why I bought the second). Best of all, it comes off if for some reason you want to drop it.

Also for guidance:

GI welded floorplate mags require a thumb down the well to seat, Wilson combat mags with lo-profile steel/alum pads fit about flush, and 47Ds with standard bumper sticks out enough to be "heeled in" flawlessly.

Another vote for S&A.  I put one on my Kimber and the fit and finish was perfect.

I'm running mostly Ed Brown 88 mags right now I think they'll be able to be "heeled in" pretty well too.

I've got S&A but if I could do over, I'd get a Mars Armament.

Ok, but why??? Just like the look better or the price or the fit....

Fit and finish. There's also more options for checkering and such.

I'm just using the one that came on my Kimber––it's a one piece, flat, checkered MS with integrated magwell.  Nothing too fancy, but it works rather well.
