Need a recommendation for a new fullsize 1911.
Range of no more than 1100 bucks. My idea so far is to get a Colt XSE and hand it to a competent gun smith and have him do some magic on it.. replace the beavertail and add a s&a magwell etc. The gun must have an ambi safety. It would be a primary self defense/carry gun. This sound like a good idea? Any other suggestions? thanks 1911forum! |

It would be a primary self defense/carry gun. If the XSE has most of the features you want, go for it. That's what I'd do, though depending on the smith's rates, I might start out with a S70 repro or a 1991 NRM. |

I have been very impressed with the fit, finish, and reliability of my Combat Elite, great shooter. http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/8219/img1494large.jpg I'd have to go with the XSE/railgun over the combat elite, as they come with an ambi safety already in place, which is mandatory for me (lefty shooter )
