which edges/parts of the Safety did you have to file exactly? Im just courious, because (at my sistema) i just had to file the nose a bit off, so the Safety will release the trigger when disengaged. http://www.blindhogg.com/gunsmith/brownbt.html |

I'm probably around the $150 mark also.
The grip safety is fine for now. I will fit a proper beavertail sometime in the future however. This was kind of a "get your feet wet" project. Danno, That looks amazing, nice work! EGW's thumb safety is sweet. I have to say, that the Remington parts I took out were for the most part very nice. Thanks for looking, everybody have a good weekend, stay warm! |

Thanks!!!
I bought the R1 as a project gun. The fit was nice than the mil-specs that I looked at for probably close to 6months. The barrel fit and the dovetail front sight were also deciding factors. It was my first time fitting a grip safety and it turned out well. After I was done, I read somewhere about using a belt sander to get most of the meat off of the rear tangs. If I would've known that or had a mill, it would've been a lot quicker. For refinishing the filed parts I used some Formula 44/40. Once I'm done I'll either do Cerakote or black nitride. |

Cool! That was my main hangup on blending a beavertail; I didn't want to have to refinish the whole beast. And honestly, I wanted to see what a drop in would do for me.
I can shoot thumbs up now, which I very much like. . . Perhaps next year you will see my "I just fit my first beavertail" post This place is inspirational. |

All the parts pictured fit with no issues. Danno was right, the 10-8 rear sight DID fit the dovetail after all. Had to file it a bit. I really like the sight picture, but now I want a brighter front post.
Can you buy Gold bead front sights anywhere? I'll have to check. . .
It's funny how much the new longer trigger changed the feel of the gun. |
