I found a TRP Operator today use for $1265 and have a few questions.

Is that a good price?  The shop guy said he didn't think it had been fired and it didn't look like it to me either, at least if it had been it wasn't much..

It has a one dot heinie night sight on it that I don't really like and I am having trouble finding a regular night sight to fit it.  The only one I have found is at harrison design but I would like to find see a few others to compare and find out what it will cost me to replace the heinie.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

With the BK Ka-Bar I got for Christmas and a great book!

The rear sight is a straight-eight night sight.  I called Harrison today and they do have a two piece bomar rear sight, but he told me that towards the end of Jan. he will have a one piece bomar sight available.

Good price.  The rear sight is a BoMar cut sight, so look for those. Otherwise Harrison is the only fixed sight you can use.

Thanks, any recommendations?

Is the Harrison a good sight?

I've been looking but haven't found much.

The Harrison is an excellent sight, so no worries there.  Actually everything he makes is pretty much top notch.  I'm curious which Heinie sight it has on it now?  Is it still an adjustable sight?  I don't think Heinie makes a fixed sight that fits the Bomar sight cut.

Don't think it's a heinie, that's what the gun shop guy said and I had never seen a sight like it.  It is a straight eight and says trijicon on it, but I don't see it on the trijicon web site.  It is not adjustable I was wrong if I said it was.  Maybe you can tell from the pics above.

When I called them today the guy answered the phone with "Hello."  I thought I had the wrong number.  I talked to him a bit and he seemed pretty cool and said the turn around if I ship it to him is only 7-10 days and install is only $35!  He wasn't sure on the price but said the one piece would be a little less than the two-piece he currently has which is $150.

I also called Wilson Combat.  The guy I talked to wasn't very nice, borderline rude.  He didn't really pay attention to anything I said and started talking about Smith and Wesson.  I had to remind him I needed a sight for a Springfield.  He said their sight would need fitting and would be $305!

One thing I found interesting.  Springfield website says it comes with two stainless 7 round mags.

This one had two Wilson 8 round mags in the box.  It's used so I guess the guy could have swapped them out, but why would he?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding. The sight on there now is by Harrison. The previous owner just sent it off to have a tritium vial put in it.

The Wilsons are better magazines. Grips may also be aftermarket,

good deal.

Yeah you are, most likely my fault.  the sights on there are straight eight tritium sights. and say trijicon on them.  I mistakenly thought they were adjustable because the trp comes from Springfield with adjustable sights.  Apparently the original buyer ordered the gun with these sights installed by Springfield.  That is what the shop said.  He may have had them put on after the fact, I don't really know.

I called Harrison asking about replacements in case I didn't like the straight eight, which I am not familiar with.

Sweet thanks! Did you buy new? How much?

That one was $1250 OTD.

Those are similar to the factory grips, but not the same.  Grips on the gun now look to be VZ Operator II's.  And the current rear sight is a Harrison HD-001, and the previous owner most likely put it on since you can't get it from SA that way.  I had a Harrison with the single dot (straight 8), and I really liked the sight pattern.  I you decide to change it, he makes a 2 dot version: http://shop.harrisoncustom.com/products/135-hd-001-t2-extreme-service-rear-sight.aspx

ETA:  If you're looking for a fixed sight other than the Harrison, don't waste your time.  He is the only one that makes a fixed sight to fit that gun.  If you want to go back to adjustable you have a few more options

I'll have to take a second look at the grips on mine.  I also paid $1250, but it's NIB.  My FFL got a good deal so he passed it on.  We've done a lot of business in the past....

Thanks for telling me where the grips came from.  I really like them and will probably get some more in the future.  I mentioned it earlier but you might not have seen, Harrison said they are going to have a one-piece version of the 2-dot sight that you linked to around the end of Jan.

Really weird that he makes the only fixed sight to fit the bomar cut.  If anyone can provide a link to info about the bomar that would be cool.  I have googled several times and can't find any info on it.  What I am looking for is why someone decided to cut the slide that way in the first place.  What advantage does that give over novak or other types?

When you knock that rear site out, drop it in the mail and send it to me. I'm looking to replace the adjustable Wilson Combat on mine.

Now it wears a set of VZ Aliens.

The shop guy said he didn't think it had been fired?   Great Gun,but I question that statement. Somebody went thru the trouble of changing the Rear site and dropped the money on the wilson mags.they had to shoot it!. I think you did well and I know you will enjoy it.I love mine!!!
