You're probably not getting a whole lot of useful replies because buying quality 1911 mags from an optical store that also sells Russian dinner bells and gee-dunks seems suspect. Spend a couple more bucks and buy from a reputable retailer. |

ETA: I was going to purchase a few to try out and report but alas they do not have any in stock. Oh well. So where does one find these $12 colt mags? |

So has anyone tried them? You're probably not getting a whole lot of useful replies because buying quality 1911 mags from an optical store that also sells Russian dinner bells and gee-dunks seems suspect. Spend a couple more bucks and buy from a reputable retailer. While there is some truth to what you are saying, Deutsche Optik has had a presence on the web for many years and is a reputable dealer. Albeit not known for 1911 mags, they have at one time or another had some pretty cool shit. The mags in question look like standard mil.surp. mags, although I would expect them to still be in the paper, and about 30% cheaper. Likely functional, but way low in Gucci for many 1911 owners. I have had/used similar mil.surp. mags over the years and they functioned without drama. I prefer stainless mags and so I spend twice as much to get them. |

I should have phrased that better. |

They're knockoffs. Don't buy, especially when you can get good mags for a few bucks more elsewhere. Google search 30745 (the number on the baseplate) and 1911 mag and you'll see lots of threads on different sights that cover these. Quite a few people have had the baseplate pop off (which shouldn't happen since they're welded) and spill their guts in the middle of shooting. |
| Never skimp on quality 1911 magazines. Tripp, Wilson, McCormick, along that line is all I'd use, actually Tripp would be my pick. $30 to $40 for a reliable magazine is money well spent. A $3,000 1911 will turn into to jamomatic with cheap, poor quality magazines, even at the range I would not use them account malfunctions will make one lose their faith, trust and confidence in a particular firearm. |
