Pistol is a Doublestar 1911, NIB.
Took it for the first range trip tonight; 250 rounds FMJ and 50 rounds assorted HPs. Used 6 - Wilson 47D's, 2 - Wilson 10 rounders, 2 - no name 7 rounders and the supplied Novak 8 round. The Wilson's were flawless. When using the Novak, the trigger would not reset approximately 50% of the time, only physically pulling the trigger forward or releasing the magazine would allow the trigger to reset. One of the "no-name" 7 rounders would exhibit the same faults 100% of the time. So, set these two mags aside and continued on. Back at home, cleaned and lubed and tried to duplicate with snap caps. Same as the range, the Novak would not reset half the time, the 7 rounder 100% failure to reset. Both magazines insert and drop free easily. How can the magazine affect function of the trigger return? Is it really just the magazines or symptom of something more serious. Thanks. |

The trigger bow surrounds the magazine when the mag is inserted. If the mags are overly wide, they will bind up in the magwell, meaning they won't drop free. By the same mechanism, they may also affect trigger travel.
ETA: you may have an overly narrow trigger bow... One that the mags are wide enough to slow, but not retard the movement of the mags |

Think you right about the trigger bow being narrow. Comparing the Doublestar to a Springer; the trigger bow is slightly more narrow than the width of the mag well, the Springer is flush.
Could be hit or miss with new magazines in the Doublstar, will just have to test the rest of them for function and keep a note. Thanks for the help. |
