I sent my GI model's slide back to the factory to have the sights changed out for "Milspec" sights last week. It cost $75 for parts, labor, and shipping back to me. The slide was out for about a week and a half. My local gunsmith probably couldn't turn it around that fast. The new sights are sharp and crisp and much easier to see than the GI sights, which SA shipped back to me, along with a hard case which will fit a small pistol nicely.

Can't wait to shoot it.

Guns, like any man made device, break from time to time. When Springfields break, they are friendly, prompt, and competent about fixing the problem. I love that company.

Not always, had taken 4 months for them to fix a cracked frame.  I hade to wait for more frames to be made, is my guess, as it was normally a 2 month wait.

That sucks. I imagine you're right as I've never heard a report of slow or otherwise unsatisfactory service from them. Some folks complain about the quality, especially M1As, but never service.

Rebuilding a complete 1911 takes a little longer than just milling in a new set of sights. Is what I figure.
