I don't see many SA Champions and ran across one priced well NIB.

I'd like a beavertail and the sights need to be replaced at a minimum. I'm not crazy about the ILS system either.

I'm debating sending it off for a tuning package also.

I'd like to turn it into a reliable comfortable to shoot, carry pistol.

Any advice or feedback on smiths?

Thanks

Try Springfield for some smith work. Nice looking handgun by the way.

That is a NON-loaded model and is fine the way it is (except for the sights)

Non-loaded guns have a .220 radius for the grip safety.  Smith & Alexander makes one that fits.

Have Springfield install some sights, you can replace the ILS parts for about $10, and I'd just have the hammer bobbed a bit so it doesn't bit and then just run the factory beavertail.  Then all you need is some new grips, magazines, a holster, and some ammo.

+1 for the Smith and Alexander beavertail.  Figure about $60 for the beavertail, fitting jig, and some Oxpho Blue to touch up the tangs.

The beavertail will require a commander style hammer.  This Smith and Wesson part is IDENTICAL to that sold by Wilson for 3X the price:

As far as mainspring housing, I'm a big fan of this Smith & Wesson part, as it comes complete with all of the internals for $12.99:

I have it's twin.

I picked it up used about a year ago and love it.  I'd start by sending it to either novaks or SA for some better sights.  Other than that, I like mine so much I made it my main carry gun.  It hasn't chocked yet on 230 gr ball or 185 hp's.

*the idiot scratch was on it when I got it.
