Hey guys,

Got an unissued Bulgie about a year ago.  Appears to have never been fired.  Only have about 500 rounds through it.  Great gun, however, it has always had a problem with the slide not locking back when the magazine is emptied.  It stays locked as long as the magazine is left in (to push up on the slide stop) but once you take out the mag it lets go.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what you have done.

Here's a picture of my slide stop:

Thanks,

Is the slide stop spring properly installed?

You could also try just buying a new one from Makarov.com.  IIRC they are cheap ... I replaced my high-cap slide stop with a standard one a couple years ago and it was an easy replacement and cheap.

I can't tell from the picture because you only focused on the push button for the release, but does the rest of the piece look OK?  Perhaps check makarov.com to see if yours looks like that one?

Yep everything is installed correctly.  I actually ordered a new slide stop today, as well as a new spring and a new mainspring.  I'll just try that and see what happens.

Do you think perhaps filing down the part of the slide lock that actually contacts the slide to create some more friction would help?  Rough it up so maybe it would stick?

Thanks,
Lucas

The new mainspring fixed the problem.

My Bulgy looks new and has done it from day one in my hands. I used a East German main spring and a new slide lock. It still does the same thing. I figure it is something milled wrong on the slide. FWIW, I tried filing every contact point to make a better catch surface-no help.

Oh well, still a great shooter. Nice companion to my East German Mak. I know where there is another East German and Russian Mak that probably will join my 2 for the sum of $410 total.

Get the Wolff 19 lb mainspring from Makarov.com...it fixed it for me.

Mine does have the 19lb Wolff recoil  spring. I put it in before I replaced the original hold open/ejector.

Oh well, like I said earlier, new hold open, main spring and recoil spring-still does it. Still a good shooter though.
