Hello folks.

So...I just got 1911 and now have to dry fire it once every 10 minutes. The problem is, I'm at my parents house (DE) and I will be at GA when the fall semester starts. Now I know I can declare the pistol and fly with it to GA but I don't want to be involved in potential hassle. (also I don't know too much about the laws). I live off campus so I can have firearms there.

Anyway, I went to ATF website and it says I can mail firearms to myself. It doesn't say I can't mail handguns, etc. It just says I have to mail it to myself and no other person can open it.

Has anyone done this before? What carrier did you use and did you notify them that the package contained a firearm?

It's easier to take it with you in your checked baggage.  Just buy one of the cheapy $5 Dockosil cases from Walmart, put your pistol in it w/o ammo I suggest wire tying the action open (like they do at gunshows).  And just claim it when you arrive to the ticket counter.  Read up on the regs from the Airlines you intent to use.

GET INSURANCE! It's cheap and the airlines only refund up to $300 on lost luggage.

You can ship it to yourseld but it has to be by private carrier NOT USPS!!!!.

Take it to Fed EX the morning of your flight and send it next day or second day air. You'll be there to receive it.

Thank you folks. I will have FedEX/UPS ship this thing via x-Day air.

This level of firearm addiction never happened to me, except maybe with the AR15. Now I can't live without fiddling my Kimber. I just don't understand.

So I don't need to inform the FedEX/UPS there is a firearm inside?

Upon presenting the package for shipment, the person tendering the shipment to FedEx is required to notify the FedEx employee who accepts the package that the package contains a firearm. Firearms shipments cannot be placed in a FedEx Express Drop Box.
