Great find d-ride. Congratulations.
Why did S&W stop making the 3rd generation autos? Too expensive to manufacture? Because people and police departments quit buying them. Really so all police gave up S&W 3rd aka 4006 / 5906 No, many of us still carry them. It's just that when RFP's for replacements go out, free is a good price and Smith couldn't match it on new real guns. |

They are an absolute steal at $400 on the secondary market. Not so much when they were selling new for $700. Scored it for less then that, $330 (price, ship, ffl transfer) Quoted:
I had a 908, then a 908S, then traded up to what I really wanted which was a 3913 LS. I am exactly where I wanted to be and own the nicest, slickest of the third generation guns, I think. Great guns, and really dependable. I wanted, still do, a 39xx model, thinner grip for the wife. More then likely will be her ccw. For the price couldn't pass it up |
I have the 6906 lady smith. I cant seem to wear it out. For clean up I field strip and wash under hot water lube and done. I have some mags that needed a relocated catch slot and have 30 and 35 rnd mags now
Dont care for the 1st shot trigger pull, but f/u shots are a breeze. |
| True. If only my 659 (gen2 5906) had the curved backstrap, it'd be the perfect gun. Don't like that they removed the half-cock hammer catch on the 59xx's. Good thing i've got both. I've always been a fan of S&W pistols...gone through a CS40 and a 3913LS, still have my 5906 and 659. The CS40 was a....strange shape. The 3913LS was excellent. Sold it to a friend, so I still get to shoot it at least :) |

I was really big into the Smith auto thing for a while. I've owned duplicates of several models, but a list of ones I've owned are: 3913, 3953, 3954, 6906, 6946, 5906, 5903, 5946, 5943, 910, 4013TSW, 4006, 4003, 4003TSW, 4043, 4046, 4506, 1006. Those were all at one time, too.
The only one I have left is the 3953. I shoot mostly 1911's and Glocks now. Out of all of them, and they were all real shooters, I can honestly say I've never had a malfunction of any kind with them. Tens of thousands of rounds, and not one single malfunction. |
