| What happened? Why is this round so hard to find? |
| IMO, it's due to the run on guns and ammo seen with the last election combined with increase in carry permits leading to people buying a lot of carry sized guns. Ruger's LCP, the P3AT, the P238, etc. have been big sellers to these CCW noobs. It's finally coming to an end. I bought a few boxs locally lately and I just ordered a few hundred rounds online. |

On the bright side, it's now a round that you can save a boat load on by reloading. ![]() |

Thats my guess. Here in hawaii we have no CCW so 380 ammo is pretty much available anywhere. |

Why is this round so hard to find? Ruger LCP In 2008 alone they made 83,161 LCPs. If everyone who bought an LCP bought one 50 round box of ammo thats over 4.1 million rounds of .380 right there. Current estimates are Ruger is producing 15,000 of them a month and has sold over 360,000 of them thus far. |

When I read the thread title I thought it was going to be, "Why .380 when you can have a 9mm with almost no sacrifice?" Which is what I'm asking. I just do not get why anyone would want a .380 when you can get an ultracompact 9mm. I can't find a $300, $400, or even $500 pocket 9mm that comes close to the size and weight of my LCP. If you have a suggestion on a pocket gun thats close to the size and weight of the LCP and doesn't cost $900, I'm all ears!! |

The story I heard is that several of the US manufacturers didn't produce .380 in late 2008, due to a spike in demand for 9mm ammo after the 2008 election.
It's getting better. I've bought Remington and Winchester .380 at local big-boxes within the last few months, after going for over a year without seeing any. Foreign .380 (RWS, S&B, Privi) is easy to get by mail order at this point. |
