Hey Guys... I have been doing some research due to the fact I am wanting to upgrade to a .45 cal carry pistol and have been more or less leaning towards the Kimber... but I have seen some mentions of looking for one with the internal extractor...

Whats the deal with Kimber's extractors?  I thought external ones were more reliable?  SHould I shy away from one with the external ones when going to purchase?

I think that external extractors are easier to get working reliably than internal extractors.  It reduces the likelihood of problems from the extractor, which is arguably the most troublesome part in modern 1911's.

I don't care either way as long as the gun works.

My only complaint with Kimbers external extractor is that it's harder to maintain by the averagle shooter ie : needs three hands to remove. And that it's a MIM part that lacks consistancey in the geomitry of the claw which appears to be the cause of sporatic FTE's.

I try to always stay with internal extractors.

I have no emotion either way.  If it works, it works.

I will take either, but, if i have a choice, I want an external one. I LOVE Kimber's design. Some guy name Larry Vickers prefers external ones as well, but, YMMV.
