First the obligatory pic...

Went to the indoor range this morning and fired the following rounds...
5 Speer Gold Dot 115gr. jhp.

10 Hornady XTP 115gr. jhp.

25 Remington Golden Saber 147gr. jhp.

100 S&B Range Safe 115gr. fmj.

100 Federal Champion 115gr. fmj.

Total 240 rounds.

No malfunctions of any kind.  It ran like the well made pistol it is.

It did take some time for me to get familiar with it, as it definitely wanted less "trigger finger" than my FNP 45 or 1911, and I do not profess to be a pistolero by any stretch.  However, once I got the trigger worked out it was very satisfying.  The above photo represents a full 100 rounds of the Federal Champion (same thing as Blazer Brass, from Wally World) fired at 25 feet as quickly as my Maglula Uplula would let me reload the mags.  I did not rush the shots, however.

Recoil is very soft IMHO for such a light, short pistol.  Certainly not as forgiving as my all steel CZ 75B, but totally comfortable and controllable.

I also must thank FNH-USA for the large, easy to pick up sights on the FNX.  My 56 year old eyes are very pleased with them.  They are very easy to pick up the sight picture, and that coupled with the really good grip angle and ergos of the pistol bring it on target very fast.  A natural pointer, at least for me.

My verdict?

Keeper.

Addendum...

After cleaning i re-checked the trigger pull on my old RCBS scale.

It has dropped .25lb to 4.5lb. after firing the 240 rounds today.

Does the full size FNX-9 have a 4" barrel?

Yes, 4 inch barrel.  The FNX 9 and 40 only come in one size.

Dammit, i'm going to have to get one of these.

Whats the difference between this and the FNP9?

It's a great review.

The FNX essentially scales down all the controls and grip "stippling" from the FNP-45 USG or Tactical for the smaller 9mm and .40 S&W frame size.

Also the slide has a flat top instead of the radiused slide of the old FNP series.

Magazines are different as the FNX has an ambidexterous mag release, and they hold one more round in 9mm. (17 now).

The FNX also has a new "U Groove" rear sight that really is an improvement.

Two quick questions:

1) Does the FNX have a loaded chamber indicator?

2) Does it have a magazine disconnect?

1: Yes, though it's pretty small really. Red paint on the top of the extractor is visible (just) when a round is loaded.

2: No.

Thanks for the quick replies.

It will be a no go here in CA unless it has the stupid mag disconnect.

Currently the only FNH pistols that are Kalifornia accepted are the FNP-9 and FNP-40, I do believe.

If you could find one, an FNP-9 USG would be a very nice pistol, it is very very close in specification to the FNX.

Looks like the FNP 9 USG is not on the list.

I am assuming FN is going to stop making the FNP?

Told you it would be uneventful.

The magazine and backstrap issues make a no for me.
