I saw one of these the other day, and thought I'd like to have one.

Since it is a repro, is it built to last through numerous brass slingings, or is the beauty only skin deep?
Gracias.

It will be as durable as any current production Colt.  The metalurgy on these guns is of a much higher quality than the originals.  Considering the value of the originals, Id much rather put mucho rounds through one of the repros.

When you say "repo", do you mean a true 1911 style rather than 1911A1? Or do you mean some sort of commerative with fancy engraving & shit?

You also should mention the mfgr of said repo as all mfgrs are NOT alike.

Pardon my ignorance, but why would someone want the old and cruddy version instead of the 1911A1?

Personally I thought Colt should have waited until 2011, the 100th anniversary but who knows if they will still be around then.

What, in your mind, of the few minor changes that distinguish a 1911 from a 1911A1 make the original "cruddy."

A lot of people like the clean lines of the original 1911 and there are few functional difference between the two that matter to most people.  They are buying them for the historical value.

I get bit just as badly by both styles of hammer and the frame scallops have no effect on my ability to operate the gun.  Most 1911s these days come with flat mainspring housings as opposed to the A1's arched.

That's it!
Gotta love that "cruddy" style! Just hope the internal parts are up to spec.

Im confused man.  This is a current production gun.  Made from the same materials at the same factory that is turning out the current Colt 1911 line, which are some of the best they've produced in years.
