I want a 9mm for my first handgun. I've shot a .22 and want something bigger to take to the range. I own an AK47 and an AR15 so I'm not new to guns, just handguns. What are your opinions? I was looking at a glock. My range is 200-500. I would like to keep it on the lower end around 300 if possible. But if I have to spend more so be it. I just want a nice starter gun to shoot at the range.

You should easily beable to find a used glock for around your price range.
Try Summit Gun Broker
I'd also look into a Ruger P95, SW9VE, or a used S&W Auto.

In that price range I'd be looking for a used S&W 3rd generation auto. Great guns for the money.

All the above are good suggestions (except Hi-Point). If you want a new gun, give serious consideration to the Ruger P-series. Built like tanks (some people think they handle like tanks ), very reliable, available brand new for $300

for a new pistol guy, I would suggest the beretta over the glock, you need the feel of having an external hammer on your first pistol

Pistols are pretty individual things - take a look at the M&P's as well.

xd9, m&p9, or glock. i highly recommend shooting all three before you buy. i too was in your position and bought a glock. i hated the glock! bought an xd and loved it! my brother-in-law owns a m&p and it is a great gun as well. my 2 cents. all can be bought under 500 bucks!

If you want a glock, buy a glock.  Don't let anybody here tell you what you want.

For your budget, police trade in Glock.

Police trade guns are usually pretty good guns.  They're basically "carried lots, fired little" kind of guns.  The only wear will be on the outer finish where it's been in and out of a holster.

if on a budget buy a 22 and lots of ammo first. then move up to a centerfire later on. another option would be a used sig 226 then in short order get a 22 conversion for it

Get what you want.  I prefer Glock but also like the S&W M&P9c.  If you are willing to spend $300 why not spend just a little more if thats what it takes to get something like a Glock 19.  You will keep it forever and love it, also you won't regret spending $300 on a gun thats just ok.  Hold a few and shoot a few before you make your choice.  There is alot of great info on this site but everybody has their own opinion, even me (Glock 19).
