So I haven't seen or heard a single thing about these on Arfcom. Are they any good? They claim to be the finest in double barrel pistols...Not that it is a large market or anything. I held the Texas Defender today & it felt like a tank. I would like to be able to carry a .45 long Colt/410 in my pocket |

Just found out that .45 Long colt is almost $10 a round. That kinda sucks. I guess there are allways other calibers though ![]() LOL WUT? A 50 round box is $500? Step away from the crack pipe son. LMAO, woops. I didn't meen to put that 0 in there. $1.00. I am use to buying .40 s&w, so $50.00 for a box of Federal .45 LC is rediculous to me. I guess If its only 2 shots though, I won't be flying through ammo though. That was a total... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Just doesn't seem like that great a defensive pistol, to me anyway. "Finest in double barrel pistols".............I'd say, so what..............so-and-so can make the "finest flintlock pistol", doesn't mean I wouldn't rather have my usual high-capacity auto, or ultra-reliable J-frame sized revolver, rather than their "finest" outdated technology. Just sayin'....................... |

I've shot derringers in 45 LC and 410. They are nothing more than a range toy. Really heavy trigger pull, bad ergonomics, crappy sights, 2 shot capacity and you must cock the hammer every shot. Add in heavy recoil of a full power 45 LC and it sucks even more.
Derringers were top of the line pocket pistols 100 years ago. They are range toys now. Gringop |

Point taken from the last 2 post. I may just be looking for an excuse to buy a cool new toy. I kinda looked into because I like the NAA mini revolvers, but this thing has alot more power than a .22 Mag. On the other hand your opinions are based around practicality which makes sence considering I mentioned using it for a defense tool, but in all aspects that is also saying it is pointles to buy an M1 Garand, or a Le enfield, or a Luger, or any other curio relic. They are not ment to be used for defense purposes. I guess I am just wanting to know are they a quality firearm & not just some shit gun. I would have posted this in curio relic section, but its a newerish gun, so I didn't know if anyone has had any experience with it. All points aside are there any practical purposes for a Desert Eagle... I have seen people who carry those, and that is just rediculous. |

Well it was designed for boarder guards to be able to disable a vehicle via shooting a hole in the engine block. You need to punch some holes in some engine blocks? |

I learned something new. however, what I was getting at is that I have seen "civilians" post pictures on the carry issues forum of their rig inwhich they carry a desert eagle. There is no point in a carry option like that for a civilian. The same way some of u have pointed out there is no point in carrying a derringer. it is just the mere "because I can." Moving along I am wanting to know if anyone has any experience with this gun, or if they r even a quality firearm or a POS.

| They are certainly one of the most fun range toys you will ever own. And the best way into shooting magnum caliber handguns without hurting your wrist. I have never owned one but gotten to shoot them at the range several times. They don't have the best reliability as I had a few stoppages in my limited time with them, however, I haven't grinned that big in a long time. They are a hoot to shoot. |

The Bond Arms is a quality gun. It's very well made from solid stainless steel, and the level of workmanship is very high. So, it is the Cadillac of derringers.
The down side is the same as for most derringers. The gun is clumsy and awkward to cock, especially under stress. Basically, you're juggling a gun with a round grip with a couple of fingers while trying to cock the hammer. This leads to fumbles in getting off the shot, and can cause dropped guns. A speed gun, derringers are not. Recoil from the heavier calibers is intense, and this too causes problems with maintaining a good shooting grip. Second shots are slow and uncertain. In the popular "Snake Charmer" Bond derringer, effectiveness can be questionable. My brother in law bought one for a finishing gun. When his son fired it at 8 feet with heavy bird shot at a plywood target holder, some of the shot actually bounced off the plywood and hit him. Fortunately he wasn't hurt, but I now question how effective shot would be from such a short barrel. I think that the derringer "fits in" as a last ditch defense weapon, not as a primary carry gun. My opinion, given the surprise nature of self defense situations, I'd be doubtful whether you could get it out, cocked, and fired effectively in time. I'd suggest doing a real world evaluation of a derringer. Pocket one, and run some range tests to see just how quickly you can get it out and get off two shots on a man-sized target. I would suggest being careful, because under stress, you will tend to fumble a derringer or drop it unless you train with it like a Spartan. Second, I strongly recommend doing some simple penetration tests with the shot you choose. I think you'll be shocked at just how little a derringer will penetrate, especially through heavy clothes. |
| I started thinking about this little shotgun derringer, and I think it would be a great fishing tackle gun. Throw it in your tackle box and when you are in a boat you have a small shotgun in case you real in a snake. Hold the bastard up, pop him in the head with your shotty pistol and keep on truckin'. |

Desert Eagle is practical for hunting medium game if you're into handgun hunting, and really not much else. ETA: Good for blasting the shit out of old milk jugs filled with water, which is completely worthwhile, IMO
