Hi all. I picked up a S&W 586 T today. I have been unable to find this gun in any referance manual.  It has a HEAVY underlug that is held on with 2 allen screws. On the box the tag reads:
Model: 586
Caliber: .357
Barrel" 6
Fin: B
Stock: TS (it has a set of Pachmeyer ruber grips on it)
Features: RR WO
Serial No: BDTXXXX
Product Code: 103592
Spec. Ord: 9146

Can anyone decipher this for me? What do I have here? I payed $425, which is high for a 586, but it is REALLY nice, and I have never seen one like it. Thanks for any input!!!

Does it have the adjustable front sight as well? S&W did make a Target model for use in PPC matches for a time. I have also, I believe, seen this model in the 686 stainless version. Not too many were made as this was about the time many...early to mid 80's IIRC... agencies were converting to autos and PPC shooters began using them for target competition as well. I have seen the model with the removeable underlug, but only one or two, and since I was never a serious PPC'er, don't really know much more about them.

Blue Book doesn't describe the barrel you say has allen screws holding the lug on. Is this gun NIB or used?

Yeah, I have looked everywhere, I can't find it. It was traded in to my store as NIB, but we know how that goes, lol. The forcing cone has no wear, and neither does the cylinder face. If it was shot, it was not shot much. The allen screws hold on the large underlug, they are not part of the barrel. Any no, it does not have an adjustable front sight.

To my knowledge, S&W has NEVER had a lug held on with allen screws. IMO, someone has done some aftermarket work.
