| I just bought a Beretta sub compact and it shoots low, so I've ordered a higher rear sight according to how low it prints (7.4mm is standard and the higher one is 7.7mm). Well, then I thought I've never replaced a rear sight, but since it's dove tailed and replaceable according to Beretta, I'm assuming you just 'drift' out the old sight and 'drift' the new one in it's place by using a brass punch, tapping low on the sight and supporting the slide on it's side!? I'm also assuming you can punch it out from either side (?) other than that it's not brain surgery –– this sounds reasonable –– anyone with experience please comment. Anyone? |

Most folks will drift the rear sight out the right side of the gun, away from the slide release. Installation will be the reverse, begin on the right side of the slide cut.
Sometimes the sights have some sort of adhesive dabbed in there. I use a brass hammer such as the one from Lyman that has a brass drift as well to lessen the chance of marking the slide. Good luck! |

This is the way its done on a 1911. |
