Does anyone know how to lighten and smooth a trigger{striker} on a styer m40? Or the name of a good gunsmith that knows styers ?

How many rounds do you have through it?  I just got an M9, and it felt a little rough the first time I fired it...but 200 rounds later it had started to smooth out.  I think the pull is supposed to be around 5 lbs from the factory...that's not hideous, but it could be better I suppose.  Good luck..I don't know that many smiths have seen these pistols, let alone know how to work on 'em.

Might you have an earlier version of the Steyr?  I believe their pull was about 12 lbs or so.  The upgraded ones have a nice crisp pull of about 5 lbs.  If you have an older one, I believe you can get in touch with www.usasteyr.com to get it upgraded.  If it's the newer one, then sorry, I don't know how one would go about getting that lighter.

You could polish the striker tab and the face of the sear if it is rough but I would not reccomend it.

NEVER EVER even think about removing any metal from either part because the sear's contact with the striker is the ONLY thing between you and a certian accidental discharge with the Steyr.

They are dangerous enough without messing with them.

I have 2 m40's and 1 s40 ,and yes the first one i have  for 8 months and fired 200 or 300 rounds feels bettr than the unfired ones .The price was right $289.00 (CDNN) AND THEY ARE GREAT PISTOLS ,but I was hopeing for a lighter ,smoother trigger pull .I bought them to stash at the shop just in case.PHOENIX is turning into a high crime city more and more each day .I'll just break them in and lube the hell out of them and that's that .
