So ive never shot a 1911, but lately ive really been thinking about getting one for the house, and the keltec for carry and perhaps carry the 1911, so my question is, if any of you have shot the pf9 how is the recoil compaired to the 1911? Ive shot my grandfathers .40s&w the recoil is less then the pf9. any help would be awesome

The PF-9 is a pretty snappy little pistol. A 1911 will be a much "easier" to shoot gun.

I actually kind of figured it would be easier, ive just never had experience with anything bigger then .40

It will be less snappy than the .40.  The .40 round has a pretty stout recoil curve.

+1

.40 is much snappier than .45.

Pf-9 recoil is a lot like a P-3AT recoil,  not a lot of fun after a while.
A 1911 barely has any recoil, and what it does have is a big push rather than snappy.

1911 in 45ACP has a twisting/torquing recoil.........difficult for women and inexperienced pistoleros to control...........

Respectfully and recognizing that this is a really subjective topic where personal experiences vary, I really disagree with this.  I very recently started shooting a 1911 and I have found it to be a really fun gun to shoot.  The rolling recoil that's easy to control and I shoot it better than most of my other pistols.  Not that I necessarily think one of the inexpensive 1911 pistols are a good choice for someone new to pistol shooting, but that's about reliability.

Inexpensive does not necessarily mean not reliable. I bought one of the RIA 1911 clones a few years back when you could find them at the funshows for $269. It has been perfect through 1500+ rounds of Wolf ball ammo so far, no failures of any kind. A great range gun, except for the cost of feeding it these days. That is, when you can find feed for it these days. I may have to break into my tin of Russian ball ammo that I bought for storage many years ago.

This for sure.

A 1911 in .45ACP is great.......................the recoil, to me, is much more of a "push" than a "snap", and with the proper grip, extremely controllable.

A 1911 in 9mm gives me a super light recoil feel.

Not bad at all in .40 either.

The snappy recoil in a 40 S&W is really all about the weight of the pistol it is shot in,I have a Thompson 10 mil that I have
ordered an Oly Arms Nat match 40 S&W barrell(the gun is over 2lbs )and when I switch out the barrells the 40S&W is
pretty much like a 9mil +.  But if you shot the same round out of a plastic pistol  you would get MUCH different results.

The recoil of a really hot loaded 10 mil will lift your pistol really high and send brass back hard enough to knock birds out of
the air(kinda like the 9mil Mak)but thats what real guns do!

But the 40S&W is not that beast!
