I'm selling my .45 and getting a 9mm due to ammo cost.

Other than being slightly larger, what is different about the G17. I asked which one to go with in the Glock forums, and everyone said the G19. Why is the 19 'better?'

I've shot a 2nd gen G19, and it felt fine. Is the grip that much smaller? If the 19 can take 17 mags, it can't be too much different (fatness wise).

I'm thinking of going with a used 2nd gen G17, and if I do, and it breaks or screws up, will Glock take care of me?

Thanks.

The 19 is easier to hide. The grip is also straighter. I don't care what the barrel length is, 17, 19, 34, all work. But the short grip is best.

Do you want to conceal it? If so the G19 is smaller and easier to conceal.
Have you held both? If so which is more comfortable?
Decide what you want your the one buying it not anyone here so you have to decide.
remember i think alot of it is personal preference.

I sold my G-17s and now have two G-19s. Great handgun which is relatively easy to conceal.........

Neither is "better", they're both outstanding pistols.  Can't go wrong with either.

Probably more love for the G19 due to it being slightly more concealable, to most folks.  I carry a G17 everyday, no problem concealing it.  I also like the feel of the full-size grip just a little bit better.  They're both great though................I'd carry either one with confidence.

Yes, Glock has an outstanding track record of customer service.  Go with either one, you won't be disappointed.

Might be moot now; I'm trying to get a NIB G19 face to face, a 3rd gen with 4 mags, for $400. He's moving to New York.

the diff: 1/2" up and down

both are great guns and imo, i'd opt for both; if not, the G19 hands down

I have had both the 17 and 19 2nd gens.  I am one of the folks who like the 3rd gens better, plus I want to put night sight on all my go to guns.  Sold them both and bought a new G19 and 34 w/ NS last year. It was a good deal for me IMHO.

Anyhow the only reason the 19 is better is if you are planing on CCW.  If you can afford it get a 34 instead of a 17.
Although, the 17/34 grip does fit my (large)hand a little better.

I was issued a G19 for about 3 years. I love it. I bought a G17 because it was a great deal. It's nice but not quite as concealable as the G19. I'd rather have both. If I can't, I want the G19.

It's large enough to be a service pistol but small enough to conceal. Besides, I use G17 as reloads so I'm not losing much.

You were issued a G19 as a carry weapon? That's cool. My friend has one and I do like it. Maybe I'll end up with one in a trade, if not, I'll be getting a used G17 because its a great value.

I have four Glocks, a 34, a 19 and two 26 subcompacts.
If I had to choose to keep but one of the guns I would choose the Model 19 without hesitation.
It is sized just right for the 9mm caliber and can do any kind of duty that is called upon including some types of Match shooting.

I think if you can only have one Glock, the G19 is the one to have for most people.

That was my choice, FWIW.

Get the G17 for home, SHTF and the G26 for CCW or truck gun.  I have all three, 17, 19 26.  And, the great think about Glocks is that the G17 mags will fit in the 19 and 26 if a little extra firepower is need.

EVERYONE should own a G19

It IS the peoples gun.

That being said, I do not yet own "my" glock.  Time to start shopping I suppose

I agree, the G19 is one of the best utility pistols out there.  Runs like a champ.  If I had to pick ONE pistol for all-around use, that'd be it.  (And this is coming from a strong 1911 fan).

I have large hands but still find the 19 much more comfortable than the 17.

As for giving up 45acp for 9mm, there is currently a 20 cents per round difference.  (10$/50 for 9mm, $20/50 for 45acp for range ammo).  It will take 2600 rounds to amortize the G19 in the box.  If you add in 4 extra magazines and a holster it's more like 3,250 rounds.  Have you counted how many rounds you actually shoot per year?  This of course, doesn't consider reloading.  All of my primary SD pistols are still 9mm's but since I've recently started shooting 45acp in a 1911, I don't think I want to give it up.

Hmm.. June.. July.. you'll be good by the end of August on cost.  You're still going to miss the 45 though.  Bon Appetite!

I'd love to keep it. But I've always wanted a Glock, and 9mm just seems a lot more economical. I'll get back into the .45 game. Just not for a few years...

I have a 2nd gen G17, 2nd gen G19 and a recently purchased 3rd gen G19.  I find I can shoot the G17 a smidge better accuracy wise, but I really like the G19.  It is, if not the, then of the best platforms for a 9mm chucker.

Whichever fits your hand better. In my case that's the 17.

If I had listened to everyone else and bought a 19, I'd probably be a Glock hater to this day.

This.
IMO, neither is a great for CC (especially in summer months) , but the 19would be slightly better then the 17.  My 17 is a home/range gun and fits my hand perfect and is a dream to shoot.

Hey, it's a Glock so either one is a great choice.

I prefer the G19 for a concealed carry gun. It seems the best balance of concealable size, capacity and shootability in 9mm. That being said, concealing the G17 or the G34 has never been a problem for me, I just think the G19 is where all the roads on the map converge.

I currently have three G19s (a couple of spares never hurt) among others. My two favorites are the G19 and G21SF. The G20 is my "Go To" mountain gun though.

The dang things just seem to accumulate.

Here is a moto pic of some of my Glocks and a couple of spare mags:

I've shot a G17 before, and if the handle were any smaller, it would have been uncomfortable. Then again, Glocks aren't my cup of tea. I would rather have a USPc or a p229 for a carry gun, and a 1911 for a full size side arm.
