I learned shortly after starting to carry that cheap holsters aint good & good holsters aint cheap. After throwing away $50.00 - $70.00 on junk, a friend schooled me on this. Enter those plastic, kydex holsters, I took one look @ them & had nothing but ridicule & contempt for them, Ha I'd been down that road before. I have friends that use them & while recently practicing drills we swiched weapons & I used their holsters. These things are great, I have them now for all my handguns, just bought one for the 649 yesterday, a whole $15.00. I'm now fighting the feeling of digressing,.....you ? ..........Paul |

Kydex is a world apart from leather. I spent a week trying to get a leather holster to work smoothly (wrapping the gun in paper and stretching the holster [soaked in a special oil]), using a teflon based lube to reduce friction, etc -It still held on to the gun for dear life. Went to elderton custom and bougth a Kytac holster, it was a thing of beauty, effortless draw. I like the way leather looks but function is beauty. |
| I've gone with Uncle Mike's (paddle) over Fobus because the tension can be adjusted. The Fobus I had for my .45 quickly lost tension and would not hold the pistol safely. I returned it and got another at no charge from Fobus (lifetime warranty). I use the Fobus as a spare. Both can be used in IDPA or USPSA matches. As far as carry comfort and concealability...I have a stainless PO LDA 14.45 and the Uncle Mike's paddle distributes the weight well on the hip. If I wear a light jacket buttoned, it's noticeable. If the jackets open, then theres no tell tale buldge. |
| I tried several different holster types for my G19 and ended up with a Desantis TacPro Kydex paddle $30.00, the thing is great, I was surprised that the plastic holster became my favorite. It was a little thicker material than the Uncle Mikes and Fobus, it also has two tension screws. |
