Px4 .40 ETA, I honestly can't believe this hasn't made the list. Their ergonomics are excelent, they are as simple to maintain as a Glock, they are extremly reliable, they are accurate, and their recoil is less than others. If the current prices are too high, there is always the Stoeger Courger, which is practically the same gun, save with an aluminum frame - made on Berretta machinery, in a Beretta owned factory, imported and supported by Beretta. |

If I was going to buy a .40, I think it would be the M&P mainly for the reason that's it the only semi auto I know of that was designed from the ground up to shoot that round. All of the other .40's I know of were designed as 9mm's and later refitted to shoot the .40
ETA - The fact the the M&P is a very good gun and the 2 free mag deal don't hurt either

I have read that the P229 and the USP40f were both also designed around the .40 originally, and retrofitted "down" to the 9mm. I was, however, unaware that the M&P was designed around the .40. IIRC, the M&P was out for a good 6 months or more as a .40 before the 9mm version was released. Even knowing about the P229 and USP (BTW - thanks for setting me straight!), I would still get the M&P |

IIRC, the M&P was out for a good 6 months or more as a .40 before the 9mm version was released. Even knowing about the P229 and USP (BTW - thanks for setting me straight!), I would still get the M&P I'm much more inclined to agree with you now that I know that the M&P was designed around the .40 as well. That's the main reason why I always recommend the P229 in these kinds of threads. The only thing that I wish S&W would do with the M&P is come out with a 9/40 in a mid-size frame. I just don't think that the M&P has a piece that fits the niche that the G19/23/32 fits for Glock. |

The 40 S.W. works just fine if thats the round you have set your heart on. A Glock 23 in second and third generation configurations are very nice pistols. The Glock 22 are very nice also. The SIG P229 and P226 chambered in 40 S.W. without rails are very nice also. |

I can't argue the numbers but I could have sworn when I first got my M&P9, I laid it next to both my G19 and G17 and size wise, it was in between the 2? You never broke out your crack addiction around me! Why you holdin' out?!? The numbers come from the respective manufacturer's websites. I did this comparison a month ago or so when I was wanting an M&P9 really bad. After discovering these results, it's tough for me to move on the M&P. It's still on my "kinda want" list though. I'd like to see some side-by-side comparison pics between the M&P9 and the G17. |
