I am looking for a new or used Browning or FN Hi Power but I can't find any in my area. The other day I found a shop who had Charles Daly HP's for $399. Anyone know anything about them? Are they relaiable solid guns or should I just hold out for an FN or Browning? I hear they are actually made in the US by Charles Daly, is this true or are they just imported and remarked as Charles Daly's? Thanks |
| I don't believe Daly makes ANYTHING. As I recall, the Daly's were rebadged Hungarian FEGs. The FEG is a decent clone if you can find one for $200. At $400 I'd say no way. I've seen Browning/FN Hi-powers priced at that. At the very least you could get the real thing for $100 more. Be patient or check Gun Broker (or both). There's no reason to settle for an imitation. |
| I have one and it is a great pistol. I think I paid $300 for it with a trigger job and mag disconnect 2 or 3 years ago. I looked on gunbroker and gunsamerica for another one a couple of weeks ago and found a couple for around $400 so I guess thats the going rate these days. I think I heard somewhere that Charles Daly is no longer importing them. |

Can I borrow your time masheen so I can buy some $500 BHPs? |

I once traded a Gen II G19 for a LNIB BHP MKIII. |

As I remember the Charles Daly's were made by FEG as pointed out earlier. They aren't a true 100% Hi-Power clone but are well made. Some people say they're pretty but don't hold up like the originals. Daly can't get them anymore from FEG and of course it's next to impossible to get a new Browning or FN. I wouldn't pay $400 for the CD unless you're desparate and never see a HP anymore.
For a low price, keep an eye out for the Argentine FMs. Early ones (about 1970-90) were licensed by FN and are 100% Hi-Power. Browning and FN parts will fit. Later ones have some cosmetic differences or smaller slides (The Detective) but are tough as nails and cheap. I got a 1989 FM in great condition a few months back used at Cabelas for $249. Occasionally you will see them for sale in that price range. No one knows how great they are so they go cheap. |

the CDHP has FEG internals but the slide and frame were done by dan wesson and magnum research, serials beginning with HPxxxx were made by dan wesson but only 500 were made so are fairly rare. HPMxxxx are magnum research models.
399 is on the high end but not overpriced. even though they are discontinued CD will still honor the lifetime warranty (as long as you dont tamper with it). I own one and love it. though I don't get hung up on brand names. here's a good comparison between the CD and Browning |
