Hello folks,

Well . .  since we here in Ohio get to carry after April 07, I'm in the market for a new 45 auto.

I'll carry a S&W Model 60, in 357 as my "always" gun, but want a another 45 auto for "serious carry".

Now I LOVE the good old 1911, so want to stay with that.  But . . . been looking at a light-weight Colt Commander model.  Kimber also makes a nice 4" model light-weight 45 auto.

Don't want no Glock, or "Officer's" sized 45 auto.

So. . . . .what is your opinion of a light-weight Commander ? ?   Will most likely use 230 ball or 230 HP ammo of some sorts.  I've never shot one, but have three "full sized" and one steel-framed Commander, and love them all  ! !

Any opinions on a light-weight Commander or any 4 inch light-weight 1911 ? ?

Thanks  ! !

I've got a Colt LW Commander made in 1975 that I bought in 1979 and have carried untill just this year when I replaced it with an Officers ACP.

Great gun with mega miles on it and never let me down.

I have also the all steel Colts Combat Commander, but carry my Springield stainless ultra compact!   It's got colt officers ivory grips on it so the handle has to be the same as the officer model!

It's as heavy or heavier that the commander, but much shorter, and rides quite high and out of sight in a FOBUS!  I'm sure there are much better pistols out there, but as of yet none that have a true point of aim I get from this ulra-compact!

Mine is one of the early(maybe 95 or so) so don't know about anything newer!

You might give them a try,and in springfields you either get a complete headache that is never going to go away,or a real jewel that you never want to part with!

And my barrel is 3 and 1/2 inch!

Try this on for size:

Only problem is you need a paper clip thingy to take it down.
