I called my local dealer he has one NIB for $465 out the door. Is that pretty good or are there probably better prices out there he has always been the cheapest, the other really try to rip you a new one.

You should be able to pick up one cheaper than that.  Used ones run around $350 and are usually in pretty good shape.  just keep your eye on the EE

Not a bad price for NIB.  I just put one on order as a LE/Mil purchase and paid 390 for tax transfer and everything.

My local dealers are selling from $419-459.  The last show I went to a guy was selling them for $389 (at the time a $30 rebate, ended up being $359)  Too bad I didn't have the cash.

442 are running 400 to 450 in this market.  A bit more for stainless is not out of line.  I've seen them for less but not often.

The prices from the manufacturers just went up a bit.

If buying new, make sure you get one of the new production model 442/642's without the lock.

What is the deal with the lock and how do you guys that own them like them? Will all of them shoot +p, or just the newer models?

My 1998 642 is +P rated, says so right there on the barrel.

As for the lock, if you've got the option of getting one without, why get it with one?  They seem to have locked the gun up in certain limited situations.  But I'm opposed to those damn locks on principle.  Just like mag disconnects.  They have no place on any weapon, but especially not on a defensive weapon.

That price is a little high but not too horrible.  I own a 442, same as 642 but in black.  They are all rated for +P.  Mine has the lock and I never had any problems with it so I wouldn't worry about that at all but I would prefer w/o the lock.  You will love the gun if you are going to use it for a carry piece. Overall great gun.
