I was browsing the upcoming Greg Martin Colt Factory Archive auction, and ran across several very intriguing prototypes. One wonders what Colt might have become had some ofthese made it into production.

The auction can be found here

Prototype "Modified" Model M 1908 Hammerless Semi-Automatic Pocket Pistol

Colt Experimental Hammerless Quick-Removable Cylinder Double Action Revolver

Experimental Prototype Pocket Model 1908 Hammerless Semi-Automatic Pistol, New Series

Colt Mk III Trooper Double Action Revolver, Specially Built for Testing by Los Angeles Police Department

Colt Mk III Prototype J-Frame Double Action Revolver

Colt Experimental Prototype Defender Semi-Automatic Pistol

Colt Experimental Prototype "Colt Compact" Semi-Automatic Pistol

Colt Experimental Prototype "Mini-45" Semi-Automatic Pistol

Colt Experimental Prototype Mini-Combat Commander Pistol, with Various Special Features

Kinda sad to see the prototypes go, as that removes pretty much any chance of these seeing the light of day.

If you check out the online catalog at that site they are to auction off the first SAA produced, serial number 1 with an estimated high of $1 million! There are certainly a great many one of a kind collector guns going up on the block.
