Which is better, veritcle or horizontal?

Yes I use a horizontal one when driving on long trips, and riding the motor bike. Do not know which is better you will have to decide your self. A shoulder holster is not as good, as a good hip holster for a quick draw.

I have two of the Galco Jackass rigs.  One for my Kimber Tactical Pro II and one for my Glock 23.  I have used shoulder rigs for years and am very comfortable with them.

I've got a Galco rig for my P2000sk.  It's horizontal.  In my opinion, if the gun is longer than it is tall, a vertical holster is better.  If it has a short slide and can be equipped with a bigger magazine (like P2000sk using a P2000 mag), a horizontal draw is much better.

I completed mine with the straps beneath both holster and mag carrier so I can secure it to my belt and not have it flap around when moving.

A shoulder holster does a couple of things that a regular belt holster can't do.  One, it allows you to carry while wearing sweatpants or gym pants.  Like on a lazy Saturday when you don't get fully dressed and need to make a trip to Lowe's, just throw the shoulder holster over your shirt and then cover up with a jacket and you're good to go.  Also, I've been known to wear one underneath my damn robe, even.  Even during the summer time a button up shirt that's completely unbuttoned will hide a shoulder rig well.

Secondly, and as already pointed out, it's the most comfortable way to carry on a long trip.  For me, anyway.  And it's much easier to draw while in the vehicle since you don't have to mess with a damn seatbelt in the way.

I love mine, if you couldn't tell already.

I've used shoulder holsters for 30 years.  These days I only use them when riding a motorcycle or when driving long distance, but years ago I carried all day, every day in one.

Edited to add:  Horizontal for CCW.  Vertical for large hunting guns or long barrel revolvers.

I love them.

The fact they are typically prohibited in group training due to "sweeping" others is why they'll never gain traction among many IMO.

Who is going to advocate a carry method you couldn't use in their training course?

verticle for hunting/OWB

horizonal for CCW...mostly in cars/seated

Shoulder rigs is the most common method seen on FOB and other rear areas.  Work great when wearing body armor as it is still accessable (worn over BA).  Concealment is not a factor here.  For concealment horizontal for CCW or for long barrels vertical.  Watch printing of buckles and hardware.  Shoulder holsters have there uses but not everyone gets comfortable wearing them.

Mostly I'm interested in a shoulder rig for my 1911 while hunting (with a rifle).

I bought a verticle, but found I didn't care for it - that gun is so big that it ends up wedged almost into my armpit in order to fit still above my waist.  I'm going to try horizontal next.  My biggest concern there is that most shoulder rigs use a pretty simple snap, which could pop and the gun could fall out of horizontal pretty easily.

If your just hunting then consider the US Militaries M7/M9 (tanker) shoulder rig.  You wear in on the side of your chest and not under your arm.  Their also not expensive.

+1 for the M3 or M7 military rig, probably the most undervalued carry rig there is. I think these are available for $25 or so if you shop around, certainly more reasonable than the hundred andplenty anything else will run.

I been Carrying for a little over a year now. I have yet to find a Carry method that works all the time. I tried the Fanny Pack , but that just looks wrong. IWB but when I ride , I can't get to it with all my leather jacket on. I have put it in the inside front pocket , but how to move it to the IWB when you shed the jacket. Right now I carry in the inside pocket of a Denim Vest. It works but there is No Quick Draw from that spot. Maybe I'm worrying too much about Imprinting. Even if its just showing a Bulge through my shirt. Do I need to not worry about that? I mean if it just looks like a Bulge and Not a Gun?

Normally I carry IWB, but for long car trips, I use an Alessi Bodyguard horizontal shoulder holster.  It's extremely comfortable.

Based on this I picked up a Bianchi #UM84/92 (the US Military Holster) and the Bianchi shoulder strap that goes with it to convert it to a verticle shoulder holster.

I hate to admit this, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to mount the straps properly.  Are there instructions or tips anywhere on how to properly attach the straps on this shoulder rig?
