well, the only thing i do not like about the HK 2000 concering that CCW - rain can get into the firing pin area and rust, so you have to keep that little area behind the hammer lubed,
mags for them can mess up on the floorplate if you drop them.

I also own a sptingfield XD and its a good weapon, similar to the glock.  You have to dry fire it to take it apart.  Its a workhorse type of pistol. about 84 bucks for the night sights.  I like the safety features of the XD.  Mail in rebate right now, you can get two extra mags free when you buy it.

I own a few sigs. 229 is one I am going to buy in the near future.  I have nothing bad to say about them.  They are collector pistols for me due to the price tag, but the ones I have include the nightsights.  they are my SHTF pistols if the time ever comes.

I never own a Walter but they are popular.  Maybe someone can tell you about it.

I never own a S&W M&P pistol, but you might want to look into that one.  I read good reviews from different websites.  Good price, and I think they also have a mail-in rebate to get a few bucks back.

If you take extra care on cleanin/lube the HK..  I cannot really say if one is better then the other.  I guess you just have to handle them and see which one you like better.

I own the SW99, the Smith & Wesson version of the Walther P99, basically the same gun, except mine's a .45.  Anyway, I've never really liked it that much, it seems to jam a lot and lately I've had problems with the mag falling out while firing.    I plan on trading it in soon for a Glock 21.

I was just at the range shooting a regular XD and it felt OK, but I didn't like it as much as the Glock I fired before it.

I would suggest you also look at the Smith & Wesson M&P, I own one and it's been very good to me thus far.

What will you use it for? CCW? IPSC? Range use? What????

I'm telling folks right now to buy anything that's hi-cap, they may not be around come Jan. 21st..................

Of the list, I vote USP fullsize. Best accuracy & best resale value of the entire list.

Geez, it's like you are searching for reasons for him to not buy an HK.  And the two you came up with can be problems in any of the guns he wants.

Any gun can rust if it's rained on and not lubricated soon after.  Any gun will have the floorplate chewed up if you drop it.  Though HK P2000s most certainly have a soft floorplate.

Anyways, back to the original poster, it would help to know exactly what you intend to use this handgun for (home defense, concealed carry, range fun, etc, etc)

Bottom line: they're all quality handguns and will keep you happy for many years.

You need to check them all out and pick the one you like the best.

Probably Home defense and range.  If I like it a lot though, I wouldnt rule out concealed carry.  I know, not that helpful.  I guess I am looking for a "jack of all trades" if you will.

If home defense and range are really your primary uses you can't go wrong with a USP fullsize.  If you're thinking maybe carry, then get the compact.

Everyone's tastes differ, but after a G23, commander sized 1911, S&W 642, I'm hooked on my USPc in .40.  The others still get use, but not as a daily carry.

Definitely go and handle each one you are considering. Personally, the XD just does not fit me and my hand, and this coming from a Springfield "fanboy". Also swap them from hand to hand, etc. You may not always be able to shoot with just your dominant hand/arm.

A big consideration for me and my recent purchases is who besides myself may want or have to shoot. I've long been enamored with 45, but have gravitated toward 9mm so the wife can more easily handle, pull the slide, etc (not to mention cost of ammo).

I own sigs, hks and M&Ps and I like them all (and that's why I have them all). Which would I grab? Whichever is closest...
