I test fired it this afternoon. I used CCI Blazer Brass and Federal american eagle FMJ. Fired 30 rounds of each. I had a failure to feed on the second round fired, with the CCI, after that I had no further stoppages.
The good: It shoots right to point of aim at 21-feet. No hammer/slide bite at all. Most small autos like the Beretta 21A or PPKs tear up my hand. But no problems at all with the LCP. Its very small. Much thinner than my 442 or Beretta 21A. WAY smaller than my Glock 26 or the wifes Sig P230. Perfect sized for pocket carry in jeans. also fits great in the cargo pocket of 5.11 pants. The bad: Long heavy trigger pull. Very long trigger reset. Needs a tool for take down. I still dont have a proper holster for it. Right now I'm using the pocket holster for my Beretta 21A. Overall I'm happy with it so far. It is more reliable than my beretta, smaller than my 442 and shoots better than my NAA .22LR. It probably wont get carried all that much. Just those times when I'm wearing no jacket and a tucked in shirt in pants that wont fit the JFrame in the pocket. |

Just bought one myself. fired 50 through it today, had 6 light primer strikes. When it did fire, it was accurate enough out to 7 yards, and as this is my BUG, that's about as far as I plan on shooting it. I would like to try and modify a set of Big Dots to put on it, though.
I'll let Ruger fix the light primer strikes when I send it in for the recall... |

The bad: Needs a tool for take down. Negative. I pop out the pin with my finger nail, but a knife blade or screwdriver works too. I am also very fond of mine, as it's small, accurate and reliable Don't really consider the trigger pull on mine to be long and hard though. |

Nice gun but I went the 9mm Rohrbaugh route for the higher powered 9mm round over the .380 in virtually the same size package. True it cost a little more but to me it's worth it anyway. http://inlinethumb15.webshots.com/11150/2239887860010258782S600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb27.webshots.com/43610/2976072950010258782S600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb29.webshots.com/12380/2274361300010258782S600x600Q85.jpg You didn't say it cost a little bit more with a straight face did you? I'd love to have one of those Rohrbaugh's, but my S&W 340PD(used) and Ruger LCP together cost less than the Rohrbaugh. |

I had to get the recall done in order to add it to my CCW permit. We have to have our guns inspected by the police department armorer annually and qualify with them. They will not approve any LCP that has not had the recall done. You have to effectively register your carry guns?!? Which crazy state do you live in?

California 9 months of the year, Michigan the rest. Both states require me to register my handguns. In michigan ALL my handguns have to be inspected by the police. In Cali just my carry guns. |

Ended up having 1 fail to feed with CCI Blazer Brass and 2 failures to feed with Fed Am Eagle. All were exactly the same. The tip of the bullet impacting the top of the chamber. Completely unacceptable for a gun I'm considering carrying occasionally.
For starters I'm done buying AE .380 ammo. I picked up some Rem UMC to see if different ammo helps. Inspecting the chamber where the bullet tip is hanging up I can see lots of tool marks from whatever cutting tool Ruger used to cut the chamber. I wrapped some 0000 steel wool around a q-tip and polished the inside of the chamber front to back, not around, then followed up with some metal polishing paste. Didnt remove the tool marks completely but lessened their appearance. Afterwards I tried the gun with the Remington UMC ammo and it was 100%. I'm still not going to carry the LCP until it goes 200 rounds straight without a malfunction. Between the recall and the malfunctions its clear those of us who bought first year production LCP's are beta testers. |

So you've fired 60 rounds of FMJ ammo, had one failure and declared it a reliable and worthy of defending your life? I fail to understand the logic in this. Are you going to carry it with the FMJ ammo you tested it with? 58 rounds without a failure is enough to declare it reliable enough for SD use? It's your life, but for God's sake's man, that's not a reliability test, it's a test drive. |

I cant carry it until then and am shooting it every week. Will decide come october if i'll add it to the CCW permit or sell it. If I carry it, i will be loaded with FMJ unless someone invents a expanding .380 that penetrates a minimum of 12" every time. |
I've had my LCP (sn 371xxx) about 3 weeks, put on the CT a week ago. Polished the feedramp, ran a 100 rounds of bulk pack truncated cone with no issues. Shooting at my local range, 25 yds, I was surprised and pleased that I could keep all the rounds in the black with such a tiny gun
Love it. I can stick in the pocket of sweatpants and forget its there. Definitely fills a niche. There is good ammo out there- Golden Sabre 102gr and Gold Dots have both received good reviews in testing. Looks like the Fed may be ok too: Brassfetcher Cool little guns ETA Links to .380 Ammo Tests |

Updated reliability testing results.
CCI Blazer "Brass" 95Gn FMJ 35 Rounds fired -1 Fail to feed Federal American Eagle 95Gn FMJ 100 Rounds Fired -2 Fail to feed Remington UMC 95Gn FMJ 28 Rounds fired No malfunctions Win 95Gn SXT JHP 13 Rounds fired No Malfunctions I meant to try a 50 round box of the UMC today but forgot my .380 ammo Had to buy the SXT's at the range.
At least i remebered the ammo for the Glock 22 and Ruger 22/45 |

I got my finger rest base plates from Ruger. Put one on and tried it at the range. The finger rest makes the little gun more controllable. However the pressure of my fingers on the extended base plate under recoil caused the mag to override the mag latch and partially fall out. I've read about others having the same problems on 10-8 Consulting and elsipea forums.
Do not use extended floorplates in the LCP! |

Most LCP's that are for sale now have been made or fixed since the recall. check with Ruger but you should be fine. |

Had to buy the SXT's at the range.
