| OK, I just got a replacement site for my Desert Eagle Mark 19. The site is in a dovetail and I used a site pusher to remove the old one without issues, the problem is the new site is loose, real loose in the dovetail. Anyone know any tricks to secure it in. The old site fit nice and tight, the new one slides out when you tilt the barrel. Thanks in advance for any help. |

i had a similar problem w/ my USP rear sight...i put a tad bit of expoxy filler i had on hand ( a REAL small tad), just enough to ensure it 'stuck' and filled in the gap other than that, i guess you could try seeing if your replacement sight might be out of spec/too much metal removed, which you could try another; or have some extra metal added on (weld or JB) and file it down to fit |

You can dimple the slide. Set the slide up in a vise. Take small punch and dimple the top of the dovetail down into the dovetail cut. Make sure you dimple it in the area that is hidden by the sight blade. Thats if you cant get a correct fitting front sight. I would avoid using epoxy. If you have to remove it again, you'll have to heat it up to get it out. It might discolor the metal or the finish when heated. |
This could happen if you removed the front sight going the wrong way. The dovetail is narrower on one end (the left IIRC) so if you pushed the old sight out to the left, you widened the dovetail. |
No, I went (with muzzle forward) from the left pushing the site out the right. The removed site was the factory original and it installed back in just fine. I tried contacting Magnum Research (I bought the site straight from them) the last 2 days but just keep getting a recording saying they are closed, call back when they are open, even though the recording indicates they should be open when I'm calling. Guess I'll try again Tuesday. I thought about dimpling the slide but it looks like it would take a significant raising of material to tighten it up enough, I'm with you on the epoxy though, any kind of adhesive is an action of last resort for me. |
